Our goal is not only to reduce plastic waste by eliminating the need for cling film and ziplock bags, but also to reduce food waste.
The ingredients we use for our wraps are antimicrobial and antibacterial so they have a preservative effect on our food.
They are using honey in the hospitals for wound healing and so Beeswax has some of the same healing and antimicrobial properties that honey has.
Jojoba oil has a 3 year shelf life so it has properties that stop it from going rancid - most oil will go rancid within 1 year at room temperature.
It is the preservative effect of the tree resin or tree sap that keeps the food fresh. Tree resin has been used by indigenous cultures for many years for wound healing - they probably discovered this by watching nature - we know that birds, in particular the Gray Jay, also known as the Whiskey Jack or Canada Jay in the great boreal forest use trees to not only store thier food but preserve it. The mother stuffs food underneath the bark of the spruce tree in the summertime and then she comes back in the spring after it thaws out and she’s got fresh foods for her chicks.
Planet Wrap can be used again and again up to a year or more. Even longer if you take proper care of it, rinse with cool water and only use a few drops of mild dish soap once in a while. Do not use extreme heat on your wrap as it can cause the wax to wear off much faster. When you feel the wrap is at the end of its life you can compost it.
